The Hijab is a traditional headgear worn by Muslim women. It comes in a variety of colours, designs and materials. Choose the material according to the relevant season and one which suits your skin type. It can be worn with all kinds of attire, be it ethnic or western. Hijabs are uncomfortable for those who are not accustomed to it, but if you wish to you can try this headgear just like any other fashion wear. This article is a step by step guide to wear a Hijab-

Things you need to wear a Hijab-

  1. A Hijab from any store which sells them
  2. Or a dupatta of any kind of material be it silk synthetic or cotton, it should depend on the weather you will wear it in and a material which you are not allergic to.
  3. A bandana or a scarf which you need to wear inside.
  4. Safety or bobby pins to clip it in place.

1.     Choose the kind

You have to choose the type of Hijab which you wish to wear and the material. You can match it with your attire too or get one in contrast. Choose a comfortable material since it can prove to be sweaty or itchy. According to the shape of your face choose the right Hijab. The Kuwait Hijab suits square while the Turkish suits round faces. Al Amirah styled Hijab suits longish faces while a rectangular face needs to keep the forehead visible and bring the hijab nearer to the sides.

2.     Bandana

Make a bandana out of a scarf and put it tightly on your head. This ensures the Hijab will stay in place.

3.     Folding

Fold your scarf into a triangular shape and put it on the head so that one side is longer and the other is under your chin.

4.     Wrap

Hold the longer side and bring it to the opposite side and put the scarf behind your head and on the shoulder and pin it tightly so as to ensure it does not fall off.

 

Hijabs need not be dull and drab but experiment with colours and materials and even designs. Wear the hijab in such a way that it complements the shape of your face. The Hijab can also be worn in places of extreme heat in summer. It is an easy escape from the loo. Hijabs have innumerable styles which make them a fashionable headgear to wear. Wearing a Hijab is easy if you know the technique, using a lightweight and less slippery fabric ensures your Hijab stays in place. You also need to pay attention to the pins you wear and make sure you do not end up hurting yourself. So do not think you need to belong to a particular religion to wear this, you can wear it if you wish to and now you know how to wear a Hijab.
